Prior to coming to Key West High School after making a career change from a marine biologist employed at Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) for eight years previously. There I was heavily involved in monitoring and performing research on fishery resources and performing coral reef restoration.
I decided to become a full time teacher because I wanted to share my passion and knowledge of science as a strong leader and positive mentor for our community.
I was born and raised in Southeast Michigan just outside of Detroit. I obtained a Bachelors of Science at Eastern Michigan University. After I finished my degree I moved to Marathon, FL in 2004 to work for FWRI. After four years in Marathon, Fl I moved to the U.S. Virgin Islands (St. John) to work for Virgin Islands National Park while I earned my Masters in Environmental Studies at Prescott College. While employed by the Park Service, I gained valuable educator experience, as well as the desire to change my career to something that was self-rewarding and valuable for the future of our communities- our youth. As a result, I returned to work for FWRI three years ago and began to work towards obtaining my Florida Teaching Certificate.
I look forward to many years of teaching the students at Key West High School. I want to provide a foundational knowledge that they can carry with them for life. I will have an open-door policy with parents so please feel free to contact me at any time. I will also be setting up a class blog and/or website where class projects and important dates will be listed. I will also be available for conferences if necessary. Here’s to a successful school year!
